NovoRapid FlexPen is the trade name for Novo Nordisk's rapid-acting form of Human Insulin Aspart.
When injected, NovoRapid acts swiftly and effectively helps in stabilizing blood sugar levels. Its effects typically start within 10-20 minutes and can last for 3 to 5 hours. Due to its brief duration, NovoRapid is usually administered alongside intermediate-acting or long-acting insulin formulations. NovoRapid FlexPen may be injected before a meal and occasionally immediately after, to maintain tight control over post-meal blood sugar levels.
NovoRapid FlexPen is a contemporary insulin (insulin analogue) that acts quickly. Modern insulins are enhancements of human insulin. It is prescribed for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, as well as in children and adolescents aged 2 to 17 years.
Ensure you use the color-coded NovoRapid FlexPen as instructed by your healthcare provider and adhere closely to their guidance. If your doctor has transitioned you from one type or brand of insulin to another, your dosage might require adjustments that must be made by your doctor. Do not modify your insulin regimen without consulting your doctor first. To prevent hypoglycemia, consume a meal or snack containing carbohydrates within 10 minutes of the injection. NovoRapid FlexPen may also be administered shortly after a meal when necessary, instead of before.
Potential side effects include redness, itching, or swelling at the injection site, swelling in the ankles and other joints, and changes in vision. While the more severe side effects listed below are rare, they can result in serious complications if you do not consult your doctor or seek medical help.
Contact your doctor promptly if you experience any of the following side effects: symptoms of low blood sugar include anxiety, blurred vision, confusion, trouble concentrating, difficulty speaking, dizziness, drowsiness, rapid heartbeat, headache, nausea, nervousness, tingling or numbness in the lips, fingers, or tongue, fatigue, or weakness.
